This box contains four solenoid driven hammers that strike a grid of various materials/objects. Six different rhythms can be loaded into the box and are selected via a rotary switch.
This work is controlled by an Arduino microcontroller. The sequences are stored in external, to the microcontroller, serial EEPROMs. The sequences are created in a custom sequencer application written in Processing.
Originally created as part of a collaborative exhibition with artist Laura Paulini. The design on the top of the box is hers.
The design on the inner lid is mine. It is a piece of player piano scroll applied over an old LP liner sleeve.
